Overview
All students in the school are given the opportunity to study Geography. Throughout all three key stages the classes are mixed ability. Students in years 7, 8 and 9 look at key physical and human topics directly interlinked with the society and culture currently dominating the global stage and here in the UK. Geography allows students to develop critical thinking skills, and an awareness of the world in which they live on. Students are prompted to have their own opinions in lessons, support an opinion with their knowledge of topic areas as well as interlinking topics together such as global development and hazards.
Key stage 3
Overview
Students in Key Stage 3 study a thematic approach; they consolidate their understanding of global locations alongside developing their ability to study physical and human geography. They also develop their understanding of how geographical processes interact to create distinctive human and physical landscapes that change over time. In doing so, they should become aware of increasingly complex geographical systems in the world around them.

Key stage 4
Overview
Our GCSE course is exciting, diverse and relevant to our current UK and global dimensions, which studies geography in a balanced framework of physical and human themes and investigates the link between them. Students will travel the world from their classroom, exploring case studies in the United Kingdom, higher income countries (HICs), newly emerging economies (NEEs), and lower income countries (LICs).Topics of study include climate change, poverty, natural hazards, global shifts in economic power and the challenge of sustainable resource use. Students are also encouraged to understand their role in society, by considering different viewpoints, values and attitudes. This is a linear course, examined at the end of Year 11. The students are well prepared for these final exams with regular exam practice and students will have five lessons a fortnight.

key stage 5
Overview
The course covers both physical topics such as coastal landscapes, hazards, and water and carbon cycles, and human topics such as population and environment, changing places, global systems and governance. This is a two year course where students have two 2 and a half hour exams on all the units covered: one physical and one human.
There will be a mix of short and extended questions using a range of geographical skills covering both human and physical topics. There is also an NEA (Non Examined Assessment) where students choose a topic to investigate and independently analyse and evaluate collected primary/secondary data. This is an opportunity for students to explore their own areas of interest within their preferred discipline. This will involve independent data collection, further reading and extended writing opportunities.
