key stage 4
Overview
At Key Stage 4 we follow the AQA Media Studies specification (8572). Media Studies is a wide-ranging course which allows students to develop their creative, analytical, research, and communication skills, through exploring a range of media forms and perspectives. Students study four frameworks – media language, media representation, media industries and media audiences – and use these to examine different kinds of media products. These include television programmes, films, radio broadcasts, newspapers, magazines, advertisements, online and social media, video games and music videos.
Assessment takes the form of two written exams, each lasting 1 hour 30 minutes (worth 70% of GCSE in total) and one piece of coursework (worth 30% of the GCSE). This course will suit students who are curious about our complex and ever-changing media landscape, and who enjoy thinking critically about the media that they consume.
