Adventure of a lifetime!

Three schools unite for a life-changing trip to Japan this July!
Students from across The Learning Trust are preparing for the adventure of a lifetime!
Thanks to the Turing Scheme, 18 students from Chester International School, Queen’s Park High School, and Christleton High School will embark on a transformative trip to Japan, immersing themselves in culture, education, and global connections.
After securing a grant covering flights, accommodation, and basic food needs, the students will travel to Tokyo from June 24th to July 3rd 2025. This incredible opportunity will provide them with work experience, language exchange, and unique cultural insights.
The Turing Scheme: Expanding Horizons
Launched in 2021 by the Department of Education, the Turing Scheme is a government-funded student exchange programme designed to highlight the benefits of overseas learning. The initiative enables students to explore diverse cultures, gain work experience, and develop essential transferable skills such as teamwork, communication, and language proficiency. Crucially, it also offers disadvantaged students opportunities they may never otherwise have had, opening doors to a world of possibilities.
Through the scheme, students can take part in internships, volunteer placements, university experiences, and language immersion programmes, tailoring their journey to align with their ambitions and future goals.
Fundraising for an Unforgettable Experience
While the grant covers travel essentials, all activities and excursions in Tokyo must be self-funded. To make this trip truly memorable, students across the three schools are working tirelessly to raise money through a variety of initiatives, including:
- Easter Tombola
- Cake sales and tuck shop
- Movie nights and quiz events
- Mother's Day Gift stall
- Name the teddy bear
- Sponsored bike rides
- ‘Guess the number of sweets in the jar’ competitions and many more!
Year 12 students at Queen's Park High School have also secured support for their fundraising initiatives from Tesco (Broughton) and WHSmith in Chester.
A Packed Itinerary in Tokyo
With full flexibility in designing their itinerary, trip leaders have planned an exciting and enriching schedule. Students hope to visit Mount Fuji, Tokyo’s historic temples, Ueno Zoo (a renowned conservation site), museums, and other cultural landmarks that showcase the richness of Japan’s history and heritage.
For many students, this will be their first time travelling abroad—and for some, their first-ever trip without family. Given the life-changing nature of this journey, students are carefully curating wish lists of experiences, recognising that this might be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
