Duke of Edinburgh

At Queen’s Park High School students in years 9, 10 and 12 are encouraged to train for the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze, Silver and Gold Award. This is a scheme is offered in over 140 countries and aims to introduce young people to exciting, positive, challenging and enjoyable experiences.

What is DofE?

A life-changing experience. A fun time with friends. An opportunity to discover new interests and talents. A tool to develop essential skills for life and work. A recognised mark of achievement; respected by employers.

A Duke of Edinburgh Award programme is a real adventure from beginning to end. It doesn’t matter who you are, or where you are from, you just need to be aged between 14 and 24 and realise there’s more to life than sitting on a sofa watching life pass you by!

Why take part?

DofE will give you skills, confidence and an edge over others when you apply for college, university or a job. You will develop the skills of ‘Leadership, Organisation, Resilience, Initiative and Communication’ and evidence them in practice.

You can achieve an award by completing a personal programme of activities in four sections (five for the gold award):

  • Volunteering
  • Physical
  • Skills
  • Expedition*

You will find yourself helping individuals or the community, getting fitter, developing new skills, going on an expedition, and taking part in a residential activity. But, here’s the best bit - you get to choose what you do!

Your programme can be full of activities and projects that get you buzzing and, along the way, you’ll pick up experiences, skills and friends that will stay with you for the rest of your life.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award has been very popular since we began running it over 10 years ago. It is a challenge but also an extremely fulfilling experience for students.

Please visit the award website: https://www.dofe.org/ for details of qualifying activities and requirements, and for the full terms and conditions of the scheme. Students will be required to register on eDofE.

*The Expedition section requires 2 residential trips: a practice and a qualifier which are compulsory for students to give them the necessary grounding in the Award and to develop the essential mental and physical qualities/skills for the Expedition. At Queen's Park High School, this takes place at Ullswater in the Lake District.
